Visual Performance: Resolume Arena & Motion Content Creation
Duration: 8 Lessons (1.5–2.5 hrs each) | Can be done weekly or bi-weekly
Lesson 1: VJing Foundations & Resolume Arena Interface
• What is VJing? Concepts, Culture, Live Performance Roles
• Resolume Arena Overview: Layers, Decks, Clips, Preview/Output
• Supported Formats (DXV, MOV, MP4): Why DXV rocks for VJs
• Basic Project Setup: Composition settings, file organization
• Loading your first loops, simple playback techniques
Lesson 2: Creating VJ Content with After Effects
• After Effects UI: Compositions, Timeline, Layers
• Basic Video Terminology (resolution, frame rate, alpha channels)
• Importing artwork from Illustrator/Photoshop
• Animating Shapes, Logos, Visual Elements
• Exporting seamless loops with Alpha for Resolume (.mov / DXV)
Lesson 3: Sampling & Sourcing Visuals (Internet, Camera, AI)
• Where to find usable footage (Pexels, Archive.org, AI tools)
• Sampling from your own camera (OBS, Syphon, NDI, capture cards)
• AI Tools for Loop Generation (RunwayML, Kaiber, Gen-2, etc.)
• Looping techniques: pre-editing clips in AE or Premiere
• Resolume-friendly export settings: resolution, DXV compression
Lesson 4: Syncing Visuals to Music & Audio Reactivity
• Beat syncing: BPM Mode vs Timeline vs Audio FFT
• Live Audio Analysis (bass-reactive visuals)
• MIDI mapping & OSC triggers from controllers or Ableton
• Using Ableton Link for tempo sync
• Creating reactive visuals with sound design in mind

• Creating modular VJ clip packs using effect chains

• Building a custom VJ dashboard in Resolume

• Graph Editor & Keyframe Animation Techniques
• Introduction to 3D layers and camera movement

Lesson 7: Mapping & Multi-Screen Output Techniques
• Resolume Output Mapping: Screens, Slices, Masks
• Basic projection mapping: curved surfaces, objects
• Multi-screen setups: LED walls, dual projectors
• Setting up shows for different venues (clubs, galleries)
• Previewing your set visually for different formats
Lesson 8: Final Performance & Portfolio Prep
• Building a cohesive 3–5 min visual performance set
• Rehearsing live: managing nerves, flow, triggering
• Final showcase (in class or live streamed)
• Tips on creating a portfolio/reel
